Arup’s local and global specialists have provided project management, planning and operational readiness advice to Transurban and VicRoads for their 2-Year Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) trials program which has now begun in Melbourne.
Commencing August 2017 on Melbourne’s Monash - CityLink –Tullamarine corridor, the trials are a joint-initiative led by Transurban and VicRoads and supported by RACV, and will inform how Australian’s road infrastructure will accommodate automated vehicles in the future.
Arup brings international experience in CAV trials including our role as consortium lead on the UK Autodrive project, which has held its first collaborative trials of connected and autonomous vehicles in the UK (Coventry and Milton Keynes) working alongside local authorities, leading technology and automotive businesses and academic institutions.
This landmark project will inform road authorities on how to improve road safety and ease congestion on Australia’s roads through an exploration and testing of future automated vehicle technology.
The trials are designed within an operational readiness, activation and transition (ORAT) framework developed by Arup, which has been successfully applied to a number of major infrastructure projects including the award winning Perth International Airport project, to ensure all scenarios and logistical requirements were considered and tested prior to the start of the trials.
